Astrology
While some people call the Astrology Psychic Hotline religiously, and others think astrology is a bunch of bunk, I've found the topic to be one of interest. In fact, many Pagans are interested in Astrology, but note that it is not an essential belief. The first thing you need to know is when you or another person was born. That will give you basic Sun signs. If you'd like to go deeper, you should consult a star chart or program to find your Moon sign (the sign the Moon was in when you were born) and Rising sign (the sign coming over the horizon at the moment of your birth). There are a couple of web sites that can calculate this information quite easily and give you deeper information. Check Michael McClain's Astrology-Numerology.com to make a free print out of your natal chart and how to understand it.

In the meantime, all you really need to know is your Sun sign. This is what your "social" personality is based on. From here, you should be able to read the horoscope in the newspaper without any problem. Star charts begin with Aries because the Astrological year starts in the Spring with Aries as the first sign.

There is one thing to note when it comes to newspaper horoscopes and books telling your horoscope for the year that give only your sign rather than actual dates of birth. A good majority of those are based on the *average* person in that sign. In other words, if you were born in the middle of your sign (approximately the 5th of the month), the horoscope should be close to accurate. It will be slightly vague to accomodate everyone else, but almost accurate for yourself. If you are on the cusp of your sign (on the days when the sign changes or is close to changing--for example, I'm a Gemini/Cancer cusp, born on June 20th) it is best to read both horoscopes, try to average them, and just go about life as best as possible. Your horoscope will only be as accurate as you make it. There is not enough room in a newspaper to put in everyone's date of birth and daily prediction so that's why astrologers have to average the sign.

In the meantime, here are the Sun signs and some basic information:
Aries: This sign is ruled by the element of Fire. Those born in the sign of Aries tend to be competitive, leaders, and great pioneers in new areas. Aries people also tend to be active, explosive, and even a little selfish.

Taurus: Taurus is ruled by the element of Earth. People of this sign are very stable, practical, and down-to-earth. They are quite steadfast, but can also be stubborn and, if pushed too far, may explode in anger.

Gemini: Gemini is the first of the Air signs. Geminis are very lively, versatile, and can adapt to any situation in an instant. Their dualish personalities are very variable and they often go through incredible mood swings in an instant. They also love stimulation and easily get restless and bored.

Cancer: Cancer is ruled by the element of Water. These people tend to be traditional, protective, and even motherly. Not only are they protective of others, but they also like to be protected. They are very loyal, yet easily hurt if they do not get the right amount of attention.

Leo: Leo is ruled by Fire. They are very dramatic and flamboyant, but also have warm personalities. You can often find a Leo enjoying a spotlight or audience. However, they may let their claws come out if you don't give them the attention they are accustomed to.

Virgo: Virgo is the second of the Earth signs. They are meticulous, conscientious, and analytical. Some may even call them "anal" because they are generally careful in everything they do. Virgos have a strong sense of self and of moral and ethical conduct.

Libra: Libra is an Air sign. These people are fair and sociable, and you can even call them refined. As with many Air personalities, they may often have a hard time making decisions. This is usually due to the fact that Libras tend to be thinkers, which gets them into a huge self-debate.

Scorpio: Scorpio is ruled by Water. They are often intense, secretive, and ambitious. Many have a dark sense of humor or a biting sarcasm, but can also be very passionate. They are very deep people and their surface emotions may be completely different from what they feel on the inside.

Sagittarius: Sagittarius is a Fire sign. They are quite friendly and expansive and open. They often wish to make others happy, and can sometimes even be on the clumsy side when it comes to other people. They aren't usually very practical and you won't find them settling down easily, but their carefree attitude makes them attractive.

Capricorn: Capricorn is a sign ruled by the element of Earth. Capricorns are often cautious and materialistic. However, they also generally do not like to take a chance at changing things if the change could cause some disruption. They are very good at being determined to reach a goal, though it may take someone else to make the pay attention to everything else around them.

Aquarius: Aquarius is ruled by the element of Air. They are inquisitive, unpredictable, and flighty. Many become artists, poets, and writers because of their great creativity. They tend to be quite unorthodox, which others will consider "wierd," but get them hooked on an idea, and they can be more stubborn than any Taurus.

Pisces: Pisces is the final Water sign in the astrological calendar. They are quite responsive, dependent, and fanciful. They are also often very emotional, which can send them on wild mood swings. They are very sensitive, and are willing to give as much of themselves as they can, however, they can also be very demanding, emotionally.

While these are quick summaries of the different signs, it is important to remember that a person's personality is affected by both, the Sun sign AND Moon sign. The Moon controls the "Inner" personality, including emotions and memories, while the Sun controls the ego and identity. A person can be affected more by their Sun or Moon sign, and still others are mostly affected by their Rising sign. This can affect and is affected by things such as if you are introverted or extroverted or balanced, etc. I suggest that you research them all and decide what you think is closest to you. Good luck!
