May I suggest that you find some way of redesigning your main page to download much faster. You may well be losing hits because people aren't willing to wait a couple of minutes before anything appears.
I've tried to be sparing with graphics, and to reuse as many as possible, for that reason, though I'm the first to admit that my own webdesign works on the KISS principle rather than using every advanced trick in the book.
