Other than the native origins, what are the major differences between Wicca and Asatru?

Their names of the holidays are different and the rituals are different.  It's more reconstructionist than Wiccan. They are reconstructing a religion from historical and cultural facts, where Wicca has a varried origine which is less historical IMHO. See my little essay on the Origin of Wicca in the Hot Topic section for more info on Wicca.

Here is a page on Asatru for you:

http://www.religioustolerance.org/asatru.htm

Wren Walker also has a nice FAQ on her site, the Witches' Voice about different types of Pagan religions here:

http://www.witchvox.com/basics/intro.html

I hope that helps!

Blessings,

Asatru besides dont have the be good and kind to all that you often find in wicca. That is not to say asatru practitioner do bad things, it i just that they dont have it as part of thir religion not to hurt anyone, ust part of healty reason, like in not being taken down by the police. Think aboute the old Vikings.

Asatru, do have to be "good" they follow the "Nine Noble Values:

  • Boldness/Courage/Bravery
  • Truth
  • Honor
  • Troth/Fidelity
  • Discipline/Self-Rule
  • Hospitality
  • Industriousness
  • Free-Standing/Self-Reliance
  • Perseverance

While they don't believe in the rule of three, and harm none, that doesn't mean they are any less "good" than wiccan.  Those look like some pretty good ideals to live your life by to me.

Not all Wiccans take "Harm None" to mean be a pasifist, or be a vegitarian, either.  I don't find anything wrong with eating meat, as I'm sure I was once myself eaten in a past life.

They are totally different wicca is universal (ish) while astru is Norse.
Astru values ancestors and nature spirits more than wicca (value in ritual practice)
religioustolernace.org is more informative
astru uses ancient poetry to re-establish it's roots while wicca uses modern.  One uses ale the other prefers wine.  The tools are different, the clothes...
and dieties.

another way to put it is that Wicca is NeoPagan and Astru is trying to be Pagan without the "neo" .....
