So what are my beliefs
now? I have already said how I came into Wicca and why I chose to not
be Christian even though I still understand the beliefs. Now the question
is what DO I believe.
Well, to begin, I believe that we were all placed here out of both, a
divine force and through evolution. Godd/ess set everything up like dominoes
and then knocked the first one over (Can we say "Big Bang"?). From there,
everything that has fallen can be seen as evolution. The dinosaur line
fell off the table...
So are humans the top of the ladder? Not at all, in my opinion! Lately
there have been a LOT of natural disasters and accidents. I think that,
no matter how wonderful and "in control" humans think they are, Nature
is so much stronger and will get us every time. We probably should tighten
down on the egos.
This is why I revere nature. Humanity, in general, is pretty stupid. We
can't control things like volcanoes and earthquakes. We try to control
other animals and plants, but they always seem to get us in the end. So
instead of working to control nature, I think it's more important to work
WITH nature.
As a religion, Wicca works with those forces of nature. I found this much
less stressful and more relaxing than trying to be the "human who was
given domain over every other living creature on earth."
Also, I believe in the divine. I believe in one divine spirit that is
not something we can define in human terms. So we give the divine human
characteristics because, once again, humans are stupid and the only way
we can understand the divine is to make it like ourselves. Now I know
people will debate that I'm no better than Christians or Muslims or Jews,
etc., because I believe in a divine "spirit." Well, atheism has no place
in my little world. A quick look at history shows that different cultures
on different parts of the Earth had some sort of religion with some sort
of deity. Perhaps it was/is one big mass hallucination, but to say they
all had a divine figure without even knowing about other groups' gods/esses
sounds pretty important to me. It points out that we all have something
in common...we may call it God, Allah, Zeus, Shiva, Rhiannon, Demeter,
Isis, or some other exotic name, but I think we're all just describing
the same thing.
It's like the three blind men trying to describe an elephant...one feels
the tusk and says the elephant is like a rhino, another feels a leg and
says it's like a tree, and the last feels the tail and says it's like
a snake. Heck, there may be a fourth blind man who misses touching the
elephant all together, and says it doesn't exist. Not one of them can
say the other is wrong, nor can they say the other is right!
So why the belief in magick? Well, why not? If you think of the little
electrical impulses snapping in our brain cells, it sounds possible for
those to affect the electromagnetic waves of the Earth and all that other
scientific hocus-pocus. While magick is not technically a prayer, they
are quite similar to me and I don't see how anyone who prays can be against
magick when it is more or less exactly the same thing that they do! If
you strip away the words "prayer," "spell," "magick," and "witch" wouldn't
we come up with essentially the same definition when describing the two?
I think so, and while no ones else may share that same belief, it works
for me.
Some of my other beliefs include: I don't agree with ANYTHING that says
"hate" one thing or another. I don't agree with double-standards. I don't
agree with bigotry. I don't agree with anti-homo/heterosexual, anti-Semitic/Christian/Islamic/etc,
anti-Black/White/Asian/Indian, etc. causes and propaganda. I don't agree
with censorship, though I do agree with restricting some access
to certain materials to the younger set until they are mature enough to
deal with it. I'm big on morals and maturity. I am not vegetarian and
I have no problem with the military. I believe there's a limited amount
that you can blame on society and where you began in life, but I believe
you should stop whining and DO something about it. I believe in individuality
where it's necessary, but if you are in a group that depends on the unit
rather than the individual then don't expect special treatment (I'm on
the crew team. There is no "I" in crew, but if you spell it backwards,
there is a "WE"). Most importantly, I believe that these are MY beliefs
and that they will always be changing. I'm not going to force my beliefs
on anyone else, same as I'm not forcing anyone to read this page, but
I will explain why I believe what I do. My final belief is this: We all
have a nice big brain and free will. Use them.
